Ginger Cove Invasive Species Protocol
Zebra Mussels and other invasive species will destroy our lake-please help us protect our most precious commodity!
LOCKED GATE
Ginger Cove is a private lake. To protect our lake from Zebra Mussels and other unwanted invasive species, our boat ramp gate is to remain locked at all times. Only Ginger Cove homeowner watercraft are allowed on the lake. Residents should keep an appropriate number of life jackets, floats and lake toys and encourage guests not to bring their own. Powered vessels may only be launched from the boat ramp and never from a resident’s lot. Contact any of our Ginger Cove Boat Ramp gatekeepers at their number listed below to request a code for the lock. The gatekeeper will verify with you that your boat is registered in the Ginger Cove database and has Lot Number stickers properly placed. You will then receive a 5 digit access code that is good for the time period that you requested. To open the lock:
• Press Enter button (circle) to wake up lock
• Enter 5 digit combination, then hit Enter key
• If green, pull up on lock hasp. If red, request new code
When finished, be sure to lock the gate. Never leave the gate open or unlocked. Click here to see a short video of how the lock works!

WATERCRAFT REGISTRATION
All powered vessels that will enter Ginger Cove Lake must be registered in our GCCAC database prior to their initial launch. The online registration form can be found at the Ginger Cove website at http://www.gingercovelake.com. All powered vessels will be marked with resident’s Lot Number and Ginger Cove stickers affixed to the aft (rear) on BOTH sides before launching. Personal watercraft may be marked with a single lot number sticker and Ginger Cove sticker on the center, rear portion. Lot numbers should be in a contrasting color to the hull and at least 3” in height so they can be read from a distance. The Board recommends that non-powered vessels are also marked with lot numbers and/or resident’s name so that they can be easily returned to the owner if lost during the season.
ONE VESSEL LAUNCH PER CALENDAR YEAR
After launch in a given calendar year, a vessel may not be pulled from the lake for any reason BESIDES repair or maintenance. Once your vessel is removed from the lake, you will not be able to relaunch it until the following calendar year. For example, if you take your fishing boat to Ogallala every June to fish in a tournament, you won’t be able to relaunch your boat in Ginger Cove until the next boating season in the following calendar year. This rule applies to all watercraft, including jet skis, boats, pontoons, or any other seaworthy vessel that is removed from Ginger Cove during boating season, April 1-October 31.
MAINTENANCE DURING BOATING SEASON
If your vessel must be removed for maintenance during mid-season, a tether will be attached from the boat to the trailer by a Ginger Cove gatekeeper or Board member at the boat ramp. That gatekeeper will send a group text to all other gatekeepers to notify them that your boat has been removed mid-season. When repairs are complete and the boat is returned to Ginger Cove, a gatekeeper or Board member must visually verify the tether is still in place. Once verified, no decontamination is required and the vessel may be launched immediately. If the tether has been tampered with or is no longer in place, the vessel may not be launched until the following calendar year. If the repair required removing the boat from the trailer for testing, the dealer/repair facility must verify where the boat was launched and decontaminate the boat as part of the repair process.
USED BOAT/DOCK/LIFT DECONTAMINATION PROCEDURES
If you have purchased a used boat, lift or dock that has been used in a different body of water, you must have those items decontaminated by a certified specialist (including live wells and all ballast bags) or qualified Marine Service Center prior to splashing at Ginger Cove. The decontamination process requires you to drain all lake, bilge, live well, ballast and waste water and thoroughly wash with 140+ degree hot water. The nearest certified specialists are JD’s Car Wash & Detailing at 6070 N 261st Circle Valley NE 402-359-2160 or Valley Marine. Another option is to dry quarantine at Ginger Cove for 10 days. If you choose to quarantine for 10 days, completely drain live well, bags, ballast and bilge water, then notify a Board member once your used boat, lift or dock has arrived at Ginger Cove so the quarantine period can begin. The quarantine period does not begin until a Board member is notified.
FISHING TACKLE
Bait buckets containing water from another source are not allowed to be brought into Ginger Cove. This includes minnows or any other bait with water. Dispose of unused bait by emptying the bait bucket into a dumpster or on the ground away from the lake. Do not empty it on the ground near the lake. NEVER put leftover, unwanted bait into any body of water.
APPROVED CONTRACTORS ONLY
No contractors are allowed access to Ginger Cove lake or the boat ramp without prior approval. This is for work on docks, shore stations, dredging, or sea walls that involves placing equipment in the water. The GCCAC Board must have an “Approved Vendor” document signed by the contractor PRIOR to starting work stating that they agree to abide by all Ginger Cove invasive species protocols. If you’d like to use a contractor that has not been approved, please reach out to an HOA Board member who will get them the paperwork necessary for approval prior to starting your project. The most current list of approved contractors can be found on the Ginger Cove website at http://www.gingercovelake.com.

At least one immediate member of the Homeowner’s family who is at least fourteen (14) years of age and familiar with all state boating laws and local Ginger Cove rules must be in a Homeowner’s motorboat whenever operated.
Except for fishing boats traveling under 5 mph within 75 feet of shore, all traffic shall travel in a counterclockwise direction around the lake. Traffic on Skinny River shall only travel in a counterclockwise direction in respect to the island.
Maximum daytime motorboat and personal watercraft speed limit is 35 mph except as noted below:
a) One half hour after sunset until 8:00 a.m. – 5 mph (No Wake).
b) In Skinny River until 10:00 a.m. – 5 mph (No Wake).
c) In coves – 5 mph at all times (No Wake).
B. SKIING, WAKEBOARDING, WAKESURFING, TUBING, ETC
Motorboats and personal watercraft are restricted to only two towlines at a time.
When a person being towed falls, an observer in the towboat must raise an orange flag and the person who fell should immediately raise an arm to be more visible. Only display the orange flag when you have a person in the water.
No tubing or wakesurfing in Skinny River.
When a person being towed falls in Skinny River:
a) Raise orange flag and stop immediately to verify that the person being towed is not in distress, then pull in the tow rope.
b) If not in distress, the person being towed should move toward the shoreline and wait for the driver of the towboat to drive around the island (following the regular counterclockwise pattern) and return to pick them up.
c) Do not restart the person being towed in Skinny River. Go to the main lake to restart.
Do not drive your motorboat or personal watercraft between a downed person and their towboat.
Maintain a safe distance behind and between other vessels and a person being towed at all times.
If a person being towed loses equipment, they are responsible for any damage the lost equipment may cause.
C. PERSONAL WATERCRAFT

No fishing under or near the bridge, to include the shoreline.
Sailboats or sailboards shall not be operated on weekends, holidays, and the day of the Ginger Cove fireworks display during the hours of 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m.
Boat Safety Patrol:
Ginger Cove employs safety personnel during peak periods of activity on our lake. Safety personnel should be treated with respect at all times. They are in place to help our residents stay safe. They are watching for use of correct boating pattern, safe towing practices and to remind residents to maintain a safe distance between other vessels. If you are new to boating, surfing, tubing or wakeboarding, here's a really good (short) video to watch to help prepare you for safe operation on the water (please note the rule change that wakesurfing and tubing are not allowed in Skinny River). In addition, please feel free to contact any Board member with questions about getting started.
Boating is so fun that it's almost addictive! However, it's also a huge responsibility since you are operating a large, heavy piece of machinery very close to other boats.
